Quick Guide to Appliance Removal

Appliance Removal Guide<

Removing and re-installing an appliance can be a tricky process. Especially when you have newly finished floors. The last thing you want to do is dent or put a scratch in your new floors. Here are a few suggestions to guide you when performing this task yourself.

  • Step 1
Go to any local hardware store and purchase 2 pieces of Masonite (1/8" pegboard like material without the holes). This will help protect your floors from the big heavy appliances.

  • Step 2
Lay the smooth side of Masonite down on your floors in front of the appliances that you are removing or installing. Don't leave too big of a gap between the appliances and the masonite.

  • Step 3
Move appliances onto the Masonite. Make sure your refrigerator is empty before moving and all water lines are disconnected. If not, be sure to turn the water off before disconnecting.

  • Step 4
Lay another piece of Masonite (again smooth side down) onto your floors in front of the Masonite with the appliance on it.

  • Step 5
"Leap frog" your appliance on both pieces of Masonite. Moving one in front or behind the other until the appliance is close enough to be moved onto the finished floor. Make sure both pieces of Masonite are secure and won't move, creating a gap between the two pieces of Masonite. Make sure the final piece of Masonite is as far back in the appliance cubby as possible.

  • Step 6
    Remove both pieces of Masonite.

  • Step 7
    Enjoy your new floors!

Keep in Mind

It is always our recommendation to hire a professional electrician and plumber to remove and reinstall your gas and water lines, for the safest outcome. If you are using a dolly to help move appliances, make sure it is an applicance dolly with soft wheels. This will help in preventing buckles and dents in appliances.

Lastly, it is recommended by Schmidt Custom Floors to hire a professional appliance removal company to help.
