This month’s designer picks are inspired by green hues and natural elements that we long for after a seemingly endless winter. A big reason we love nature so much is that we have an inherent connection to the outdoors because of all the living things that reside there. As humans we naturally want to be around other living things. Bringing the outside in can connect us to nature and help us feel at ease with our surroundings, which in turn helps us get through the winter until Spring finally arrives.
Bringing the Outdoors In
These beautiful prefinished wood floors from Provenza are a great way to bring the outdoors in and add some character to your home. This floor is from the Herringbone Reserve Collection, which features a wire brush and smoked surface treatment with a rich oil finish. The herringbone brings in a pattern that isn’t too busy, but adds some character. If this pattern doesn’t strike your fancy or go with your home, we can also get it in traditional plank sizes.
Green for Spring
I love the crisp green color of this new tile from Jeffrey Court. What a great way to add some timeless color to your kitchen back splash. Did you know that green is considered a neutral color because of it’s prevalence in nature? The soft flowing lines on this decorative tile also remind me of leaves from trees and flowers. If you’re not sure about green yet, maybe try out green towels for a few weeks before making a commitment. The feature I love about green is that it goes with anything and adds a soothing feel to any space.
Create a Bathroom Oasis
Make your bathroom feel like the spa with selections that bring natural elements in. For example, river rock on the shower floors that will gently massage your feet every time you walk on it. I selected a large format 12″x24″ porcelain tile in a soothing warm taupe color for the bathroom floors. I’m loving the 3.75″x12″ size of Florida Tile’s new porcelain tile for the shower walls. For the illusion of flowing water you can stagger set the tile and bring in the soft green wavy glass tile accent. All of these elements work great together to create a soothing oasis.
