Summer is just around the corner…. Finally! Are you getting sick of the clutter? Tired of tripping over your kids jackets and shoes while they’re home for the summer? How about projects and tasks to keep your kids busy and out of trouble? Here are some ideas on how to declutter and organize your home so it stays that way.
Make a Checklist
Is there an area of your house or a task that you have been putting off? Make that your first priority and work your way down. Getting the big things done first will make you feel accomplished and the smaller ones become easier. Whether it is getting rid of clutter, like Marie Kondo says, if it doesn’t bring you joy throw it away, or just getting a system set in place. Remember to take breaks and reward yourself with a day at the pool or an ice cream run after every completed task.
Plan of Action
Once your checklist is complete make a plan. Start with one or two projects a week and write out a plan to complete small portions each day. This will make it more manageable when you have to clean out an entire three car garage. Make a task list for your kids to complete along with you to speed up the process and give them some responsibilities while they don’t have homework.
Keep it Organized
Once you have completed all of your tasks it is time to put an organization system into place. Whether it is color coding coat-hooks and shoe bins for each member of the family or making charts for weekly chores, find what works best for you and your family.
