Granite used to run the market for countertops; however, this is no longer the case. Within the past few years we have seen a spike in quartz manufacturing because of the high demand for the product. Quartz is a man-made surface made from quartz crystals, which is the second most abundant mineral on earth. Unlike granite, quartz is customizable because it is man-made and can be crafted in almost any color or pattern you can imagine. Another difference between the two materials is that quartz requires a lot less maintenance and does not need to be resealed every year. Quartz is also a harder material than granite therefore it is more durable. If you are considering a change in countertops, you might consider quartz as an option.

Ceramic or Porcelain Tile Floors

Having wood in the kitchen is very classy, but it just isn't practical for everyone. Homeowners are choosing either a different colored countertop on their island or a different stain color on the cabinet compared to the perimeter cabinets. In addition to the two-toned effect, we are also seeing larger islands in general. This gives more space to cook and prepare food and is a great space to seat guests when entertaining.

Contrasting backsplash has been a growing commodity recently, however, we are now seeing it extend up the wall. Generally it will go to the bottom of the upper cabinets, but sometimes we even see it up to the ceiling. Another commonality with kitchen backsplash is to change the direction of the tile under the range hood, or have a small accent tile in the middle.
